Crafting sophisticated, bespoke & utterly transformative interiors

WELCOME TO STUDIO TABLEAU

We are a Canberra-based interior design studio specialising in high-end residential and a select focus on boutique hospitality and retail design. Our studio is particularly focused on large-scale residential renovations, additions, and full-home interior design and decoration. We work with clients who want a cohesive, elevated result that responds to architecture, place, and the way they live. We create interiors that feel refined, enduring, and deeply personal.

WHAT WE DO

STUDIO TABLEAU is a professional full service interior design and decoration studio led by Design Director Eleanor Kirkham. We lead projects from concept design and documentation through to furniture selection, procurement, art sourcing, and styling.

Our aim is to achieve a clear, overarching vision for your project that integrates both interior design and decoration as well as responding to place, architecture and landscape. Most importantly, we seek to create a design that is utterly unique to you.

Our work is best suited to homeowners undertaking substantial renovations who want a detailed, design-led process and a beautifully resolved home.

Ideal projects:

  • Full-house renovations.

  • Major alterations and additions.

  • High-end kitchen, bathroom, and joinery-led interiors.

  • Interior decoration and furnishing for completed homes.

  • Design collaboration with architects and builders

OUR DESIGN APPROACH

We believe interior spaces should be designed to elevate the human spirit and ignite the imagination, our innate curiosity.

An interior should be like an evolving work of art, considered, thoughtful, and carefully edited to bring joy and beauty into our lives. It should move you, it should set the tableau for the life you want to live.

We are particularly drawn to older, established Canberra and regional homes, with heritage detail and an existing connection to place. We love the eclectic pairing of vintage and historical elements with cutting edge contemporary design, art and architecture. We love natural materials that patina with time and speak of lives well lived: a faded wine stain imprinted into million year old Carrara stone, brass handles that have been polished to perfection through years of use.

A modern wall sconce with a metallic finish, mounted on a white textured wall, emitting soft light upwards and downwards.
A selection of interior design materials and samples arranged on a table, including fabric swatches, wood and tile samples, and a decorative metallic piece.
A smiling woman with dark hair in a lace dress sitting at a table with a glass of red wine, in a modern glass-enclosed restaurant with a scenic view of a landscape at sunset.

“For as long as I can recall, I have had a love affair with art, fashion and design. I seem to be on some unending search for beauty in the world around me. It fills me with joy everyday and it is my absolute pleasure to share this with my clients, and bring this joy to their lives.”

THAT STUDIO TABLEAU STYLE…

A black wall-mounted lamp above a patterned black and beige sofa with a black and beige pillow in a modern room with a white wall.
Ceiling light fixture with a round white bulb and a decorative glass shade with wavy edges and radiating lines.
A modern lamp with a curved beige lampshade and striped black and white base, placed on a light wooden cabinet against a plain white wall.
A round mirror with a fringe frame hanging above a marble fireplace, with a reflection of a ceiling light in the mirror.
Kitchen sink with a marble countertop, silver faucet, and handles, with a textured white wall in the background.
Close-up of two different types of flooring: a black and beige checkered tile pattern at the top and a multicolored terrazzo surface at the bottom.

Elegant with a touch of whimsy…each space layered, curated and composed.

Lighting is our muse…not just illumination, but atmosphere, sculpture, soul.

Emotion in pigment, mood in hue…deliberate layering of colour and tone.

Romantic pairings…of materials, textures & pattern.

Eclecticism, refined…historical details juxtaposed with the energy of the new, the now.
