FORREST RESIDENCE

The Forrest Residence was a full-service interior design and decoration project, focused on transforming a house into a warm, welcoming home for a busy professional family with young children.

STUDIO TABLEAU was engaged to deliver a complete refresh of the interior finishes and furnishings. Drawing inspiration from the lush, landscaped garden and serene outdoor pool that anchor the home's extension, we developed a calming material palette of soft whites, sandy neutrals, and accents of blue and green.

Our guiding concept was to create an oasis—a space for relaxation and rejuvenation that evokes the feeling of being on holiday, at home.

INITIAL CONCEPT DESIGNS

We reinstated some of the architectural character of the original 1930s home, enhancing the original Lounge Room with new cornicing, skirting, and a custom brick fireplace. In contrast, the modern extension features sleek, contemporary joinery and refined decorative selections, creating a harmonious dialogue between old and new.

Minimal structural changes were made, except for introducing bespoke steel doors to the Lounge and Living areas. Instead, we focused on elevating the interiors through rich materiality and thoughtful detailing.

Warmth and texture were introduced via new oak timber flooring, plush tufted wool carpet, and custom oak veneer joinery paired with natural stone.

Lighting played a key role in shaping the ambiance. We reduced reliance on downlights and curated a layered lighting scheme featuring pendants, wall sconces, integrated joinery lighting, and decorative floor and table lamps.

The kitchen received a sensitive update, retaining its beautiful stone benchtop and splashback while being reimagined with soft timber veneer cabinetry and a natural stone-clad island.

For the decorative layer, we sourced furniture, accessories and window furnishings that bring colour, pattern, and tactile richness to the home.

For the furniture selection, we curated iconic design pieces such as the Utrecht Armchair and the Wiggle Chair by Le Corbusier—each with its own distinct design language and rich history. These timeless classics were chosen not only for their sculptural presence but for their enduring relevance and ability to elevate the space for years to come.

In the furnishings we looked to natural materials—wool, leather, velvet, timber, marble, brass—to infuse warmth, character, and longevity. We worked with galleries to source original art works that serve to anchor the interior design.
